LOCAL PROGRESSIVE CANDIDATE TRAINING PROGRAM

HAVING A PROBLEM?

The Local Progressive Candidate Training Program is designed to help individuals develop the skills and resources they need to advance progressive change through local elected office.

Each of the components of the program is specifically designed to develop the skills critical to advancing progressive policy change, including:

  • Equal Rights – Ensuring that everyone living in the United States is treated equally, regardless of race, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or class. This includes equal protection and equal rights under the law for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered individuals.
  • Economic Opportunity for All – Support policies that create an economy in which everyone has an equal opportunity to earn a living wage, provide access to low-cost healthcare coverage for every American, protect the rights of workers, and help the unemployed get back on their feet.
  • Closing the Achievement Gap – Ensuring high-quality education for every child in the United States with a particular focus on closing the achievement gap between wealthy and low-income schools.
  • Securing Our Safety Net – Support policies to protect the most vulnerable in our society including safeguarding the elderly and infirm, preventing sexual violence, protecting women’s and families’ reproductive rights, and combating hunger and homelessness.
  • Protecting the Environment - Protecting our environmental resources, developing local initiatives that help build a green economy focused on reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, and promoting energy sustainability and independence.
