The Michigan Local Progressive Candidate Training Program is designed to help individuals develop the skills and resources they need to advance progressive change through local elected office.
The program, which includes a school board candidacy track, is tailor made for individuals who are interested in running for local office or being a campaign manager for progressive candidates.
This six-day training series will educate, inform, and prepare participants to be stronger candidates or campaign managers, and help you become an effective progressive leader.
The program is sponsored by the Center for Progressive Leadership.
Details
This training program is specifically designed to provide leaders who are preparing to run for, or considering to run for, an elected position with the knowledge, tools, and methodologies for running a successful campaign that is inclusive of progressive values. All material in this program is also beneficial to individuals who want to hone their skills for serving as a campaign manager for a progressive candidate in the near or distant future.
Individuals registering for this program may not have already filed to run for office.
Components of the Training Program
The components of the Michigan Local Progressive Candidate Training Program include:

- Assignment of a mentor to each participant

- Issues Affecting Progressive Candidates

- Message Development and Delivery
- Voter Contact
- Panel Discussion with Elected Officials
Dates, Places and Rates
Trainings will be held over the course of three weekends. Participants are expected to coordinate their schedules to ensure their participation in all of the workshops. 2010 workshops dates are:

- May 15-16
Training Locations will be in the Metro Detroit Area.
There is no fee for this training program. Costs of training, locations and materials have been underwritten by supportive donors. In lieu of a fee, participants of this program will be required to sign a commitment agreement for their full participation. Meals will be provided at no cost.
